The optional radio connection

Connection starts close to you.•

Explore where known devices might make a connection possible.

What does this map show? ↗

The map only shows known devices. Many others do not publish a location and are therefore missing here. Actual coverage may be much greater. A connection may also be possible outside the hexagons.

More network than you can see

A guide. Not a promise.

An empty area does not mean that no connection is possible there. The map is incomplete and does not show continuously measured radio links.

How are the hexagons created?

Assumed range areas are placed on a fixed geographic hexagon grid. Overlapping areas are shaded more strongly. Panning and zooming only change the view, not the assumed range.

The prototype’s 5 km and 10 km values remain explicitly arbitrary model assumptions. The larger value is applied to reported relay roles, but such a role does not demonstrate greater radio range. Reliable range measurements, antenna and mounting heights, and terrain analysis are unavailable for these devices.

The geographic hexagon edge length is 2.5 km. The device total comes from the deduplicated snapshot. Overlapping areas and zooming do not add devices to that total.

The display confirms neither reception nor forwarding of PYRSA messages. Terrain, buildings, antennas, power and compatible radio settings affect whether a connection is actually possible.

What data is shown?

Your browser receives only hexagon areas, aggregated overlaps and the known-device total. No individual device positions, names or identifiers are sent. Hexagons do not guarantee full anonymity: approximate areas may still be recognisable.

This is a one-off snapshot from 21 October 2026, not a live display.

Map background and privacy

The background is loaded from OpenStreetMap. Your IP address and tile requests needed for the current view are sent to the map provider. Individual device positions are not requested.
