PYRSA

Safe & distributed

Your data belongs to you.

Messages, storage and passwords are encrypted. The keys are on your phone, not with us. And whatever is on its way, PYRSA spreads across mailboxes in several countries.

What is stored where?

Your keys stay with you.

Only on your phone

  • The keys to your circles and contacts
  • Your message history, stored encrypted
  • No account and no sign-up with us

On the way, in the mailboxes

  • Messages, photos and files – encrypted only
  • No names, no phone numbers, no accounts
  • Deleted after 30 days at the latest

With you, as a backup

  • A file you create and keep yourself
  • Protected by a password only you know
  • Use it to move to a new phone

Storage

Important documents at hand when it matters.

  • Emergency plan, phone list or authorisations shared in your circle – or just for you
  • Stored encrypted on your phones, readable without internet
  • Encrypted copies in several places, so nothing depends on one phone

Passwords

Your logins, safe on your phone.

  • Save website, name and password and have them filled in when you sign in
  • Unlock with fingerprint, face or your phone’s PIN – no extra password
  • Stored encrypted and never shared with your circle

Without the keys on your circle’s phones, nobody can read the messages in the mailboxes – not even us. If you forget your backup password, the backup cannot be opened.

Where the mailboxes are

4 countries. Separate data centres.

Every message goes to several mailboxes at once, in different countries and with different providers. If one data centre fails, your message is still waiting in the others.

Decentralised by design

More ways to connect. Less dependence on one place.

Imagine your post could arrive through several mailboxes. If one is unavailable, others can help. PYRSA distributes internet delivery across multiple servers, rather than depending on just one.

Distributed, not all in one place

Several delivery points carry messages. One server going down does not have to stop everything.

Content stays protected

Delivery points carry encrypted messages. They do not need to know what your messages say.

Radio as another way

Compatible radios can carry short texts without internet access, provided a radio path is available.

A closer look: what does decentralised mean in PYRSA?

PYRSA uses multiple independent message stores for internet delivery. Messages are encrypted on the device before they are sent. Delivery points store and forward encrypted content; authorised recipients decrypt it on their devices.

  • Delivery does not depend exclusively on one server.
  • The internet and optional radio connection are different transport paths. The app merges duplicate messages received through different paths.
  • The mailboxes know no accounts and no names. They only check whether a message is signed with the right key.
  • Decentralised does not mean infrastructure is unnecessary: internet access, reachable delivery points or radios, and power are still needed.

Reliability depends on the available network and development status. Decentralisation does not guarantee delivery of every message.
